Eligibility Guidelines - National School Lunch Program (NSLP)

There are four different versions of NSLP eligibility documents. Below, you’ll find a breakdown of which versions are considered valid, and which are not:

Invalid

Letters issued by school districts which were addressed generically to “Dear Parent or Guardian”

This version of NSLP eligibility documentation is not acceptable eligibility proof because the documentation does not display the name of the applicant or the applicant’s benefit qualifying child or dependent.

Valid

Letters issued by school districts which display the parent’s name only. This version of NLSP eligibility documentation is acceptable eligibility proof if and when the name of the applicant and the name displayed by the eligibility document exactly match.

Letters issued by school districts which display the child’s name only. This version of NLSP eligibility documentation is acceptable eligibility proof as long as the name displayed by the eligibility document exactly match.

Letters issued by school districts that include both the parent's and the child's name are acceptable eligibility proof of NLSP, provided the information for both individuals matches exactly.
